LCIA WA Event: The application and future of LEAN construction

What does the future hold for LEAN construction? Will more construction projects apply the use of LEAN principles, tools and techniques? How is the rest of the world embracing LEAN?

Our first speaker, Tim Newman, Director of Comspec will discuss the application of LEAN. He will introduce the Lean method of 5S and Visual Management that is often referred to as the Foundation of Lean. Tim will run through examples of how LEAN is used in practice and how it can be applied in the design process.

Our second speaker Ian Howell, CEO of Newforma will discuss the application of LEAN in the US and his vision for a LEAN future.

Ian Howell
CEO, Newforma
Ian Howell serves as the chief executive officer of Newforma, Inc. Mr. Howell is a seasoned AEC software company executive with global experience and perspective, leading initiatives in the U.S.A., Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Prior to leading Newforma, Mr. Howell served as vice president at Citadon Inc., spearheading initiatives in business development, network operations, quality assurance, product management and marketing. Before that, Mr. Howell served as director of AEC Products and industry marketing at Autodesk, director of AEC products at Alias Research, and director of Rucaps Australia.

Tim Newman
Director, Comspec
Tim is a Mechanical Engineer with over 18 years’ experience in global product development. He has led engineering teams to deliver product designs to be manufactured across the globe. As the Engineering Group Manager for Chassis at Holden, Tim led the team that designed suspension, brake and steering systems for cars such as Camaro, Chevrolet SS, US Caprice police vehicle and the VF Commodore.

Since leaving Holden, as a Director of Comspec, Tim is consulting in lean process development and data based decision making. Tim is also the General Manager of PowerCad Software where he is leading the new REVIT interface product development and BIM strategy.
